Go8 Media Release: Significant innovation recognition for Go8 Researchers

26 Nov 2015

The Group of Eight (Go8) congratulates its innovative researchers for their “The Australian Innovative Challenge” wins in the categories of Health (University of Western Australia) and Environment, Agriculture and Food (University of Queensland).

“The Go8 is particularly pleased that Associate Professor Robert McLaughlin of the University of Western Australia also took out the overall prize in the prestigious awards for his development of the world’s smallest handheld microscope.

“This microscope has widespread medical application,” says Go8 Chief Executive Vicki Thomson.

“These wins reinforce the Go8’s positive role in the pursuit of an innovative society, and the fact the Go8 has 80% of the sector’s commercialisation income, and with income from industry research twice that of the rest of the sector combined.”

Ms Thomson said last night’s awards came on top of the recent Business and Higher Education Round Table (BHERT) awards where the Go8 won four of the seven University awards for industry engagement, further demonstrating the Go8’s commitment to translating research into results for the nation’s economy.
