Today’s announcement by Minister for Education and Training Christopher Pyne that specifies 146 of 252 new research projects worth $86.9 million in linkage grants are within Group of Eight (Go8) universities, is a definitive statement of the Go8’s dominance and determination in partnering with industry for the betterment of a competitive Australian economy.
“The Go8 has consistently led in this area – as we should as Australia’s leading research Universities,” says Go8 Chief Executive Vicki Thomson. “Having industry research partners is invaluable. And the Go8 has consistently made this a priority. It is delivering impact. It is addressing how research can build a nation, advance society. It is so often problem solving at the purest level. It is assisting business and industry deliver outcomes. It is collaboration that makes sense.”
Ms Thomson said the Go8 was very proud to be so consistently ‘leading the pack’ in this area. “It goes to the heart of what we have been saying publicly about the value of research; that it is tangible, that is delivers for every Australian every day in some way.
“It goes further,” says Ms Thomson. “The collaborative research the Go8 carries out with its industry partners solves real world problems, not just here but also around the world. This latest round of grants will advance that.”
Industry partners include China Construction Steel Corp, Boral Cement, Oz Harvest, One Steel, Cochlear Limited, Boeing Defence Australia, Cisco Systems, Thales Australia, Kellogg, Brown and Root, Baosteel Company, Ergon Energy, Dow Chemical, Santos, Oz Minerals, Toyota, and Woodside Energy.
