The Group of Eight (Go8), which comprises Australia’s leading research intensive Universities, congratulates Minister Greg Hunt MP on his appointment as Australia’s Minister of Health and Sport, and Senator Arthur Sinodinis AO on his promotion to Minister of Industry Innovation and Science.
The Go8 has had a positive and productive relationship with Minister Hunt in his previous portfolios (now the responsibility of Senator Sinodinis) and has very much welcomed his strong commitment to university research.
We are therefore confident of continuing that relationship. We look forward to working collaboratively with Minister Hunt in the critical area of medical research (60 per cent of which is carried out by universities) and on which the Go8 spends some $2 billion annually.
The Go8 is also confident that Senator Sinodinis will continue to build positively on the innovation and science portfolio foundations set under Minister Hunt. Senator Sinodinis has always been a supporter of the role the higher education sector has in driving Australia’s economic future. We look forward to working with him to drive that economic progress.
