The Albanese Government’s commitment to fund an extra 20,000 university places is recognition of the key role our world class universities will play in addressing Australia’s skills shortage and future workforce needs.
The Group of Eight, which comprises Australia’s research-intensive universities, has received 3,962 additional Commonwealth Supported Places, representing more than 20 percent of the total allocation.
Go8 Chief Executive Vicki Thomson said Australia needed the advanced skills taught in our universities as nine out of 10 future jobs will require post-secondary education.
“These new places will be targeted to areas of national priority – it’s our universities that will deliver the quality and quantum required for a more sovereign nation of doctors, engineers and IT graduates, as well as train our educators of the future.”
“The Go8 will work with the Government to improve educational opportunities for all Australians, to deliver the high-quality graduates needed to meet the demands of new and emerging industries and contribute to the nation’s future economic prosperity.”
