Go8 Media Release: Five Go8 universities in world’s top 150 for graduate employability

November 16, 2016

The Global University Employability Rankings show that Australia, and specifically the Group of Eight (Go8), is educating some of the world’s most employable graduates. It also re-confirms that almost a quarter of large employers employ exclusively from a specific group of universities.

Go8 Chief Executive Vicki Thomson says the rankings – which survey some 3500 managers of companies with more than 5000 employees – are an important indicator, both of the quality graduates universities are delivering for the global economy, and also of the graduate attributes that employers are seeking.

Importantly, this survey asks those directly responsible for graduate recruitment to define what they look for and which universities are most successful at producing graduates who meet their needs

“ANU, the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, Monash and UNSW are to be congratulated for their inclusion in the rankings,” she said. “The Go8 takes the quality of its graduates very seriously and also continually strives to find ways to deliver them an employability edge, including, where possible, introductions to potential employers.”

Ms Thomson said the Go8 launch last month of Australia’s first graduate employment portal in China, which, in partnership with Austcham Beijing connects Go8 Chinese alumni who have returned home to work with potential employers, has already been well received. “It is a template for the Go8 to develop in other countries as we continue to support our graduates.”
