The Group of Eight (Go8) is to sign an MOU with the globally prestigious China Scholarship Council (CSC).
The CSC offers a series of scholarship programs open to “outstanding” International undergraduate and post graduate students to study at designated Chinese universities.
Chief Executive of the Go8 Vicki Thomson says “the Go8 is extremely proud that the CSC has agreed to invite our universities to join with it, enabling the Go8 to make available such a prestigious learning opportunity for our students.”
Ms Thomson says the position of Go8 universities in international rankings, coupled with the quality of students entering a Go8 university and the quality of its graduates, had made such an invaluable MOU possible.
The non-profit CSC was set up to promote mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in politics, economics, culture, education and trade between China and other countries. The Chinese Ministry of Education has responsibility for administration and program enrolments.
“The MOU with the CSC is particularly important at this time as it will operate in parallel with the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan which, so vitally, is increasing Australian student mobility into Asia. For the Go8 to be able to further ensure this mobility, so important to Australia’s future, through the CSC’s agreement to work with us, is a first to be very proud of.”
CSC programs will also enable two-way opportunities for university staff to undertake cross-cultural professional development and training between Go8 members and Chinese universities. And Go8 members are keen to play a greater role in hosting more quality Chinese students through CSC programs. In addition the Go8 plans to use the CSC agreement to offer a trusted platform for Australia and China to share ideas and experiences on international education policy and practice.
